Damn I Need A Job (dot com)
Damn I Need A Job (dot com) Anita Bruzzese blogs about a Larry Dinsmore who had a very simple idea that (a) grew into an additional revenue stream and (b) landed him a job. The idea was simple print a t-shirt that says Damn I Need a Job on the front, and put a letter (like an introductory letter: dear sirs, ) on the back. Read about what happened on Anitas blog (she interviewed him). Some of my thoughts: First, he got a job out of this. From Anitas blog: The local news noticed. Actually I called them and told them what I was doing but they were interested enough to come and talk to me and ran the story. That lead to a chain of events where it eventually got back to the IT manager of the place I am now. So yes, my idea was directly responsible for my employment status today. And yeah, there were some weird looks along the way as well. Larry Dinsmore Second, it was a great way to show his personality (sense of humor, pride vs. humility, creativity, guts, etc.). Third, isnt this the simple stuff youd expect to read about on Dave Perrys Guerrilla Marketing blog (or book)? Dave has hundreds of ideas the thing is, whos actually doing it (without going overboard)? Larry did. It worked, and it is having residual results. Fourth, the additional revenue stream that Ive blogged about before, the idea of not being 100% dependent upon one employer, is in place for Larry. He is set up to make money on shirt sales, sales of a cover letter package, ad space, etc. And from poking around his site its clear that he has other ideas that he is working on (like the video resume module). I ask myself what did I do that was creative or different in my job search? My answer: nothing. Have you ever done anything creative in your job search? Did it work? Where there any benefits? Book Marketing Is Also Personal Brand Building - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Book Marketing Is Also Personal Brand Building - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Each time you engage in book marketing and promotion, youre also marketing and promoting your personal brand. How you present your books marketing and promoting message is as important to your personal brand building as your websites home and About Us pages. Book titles are just the first step For years, Ive talked about power of book titles to create strong brands for their authors. I frequently use the example of Jay Conrad Levinson, whose Guerrilla Marketing brand has become the worlds bestselling marketing brand. There are over 100 books in the series, and sales exceed 14 million copies around the world. Guerrilla Marketing is more than just the title of a book series; its a personal brand that brought Jay to speak, coach, and consult on just about every continent where theres interest in marketing. But, theres more Book marketing becomes personal brand building The close connection between book marketing and personal brand occurred to me while exploring Peter Gubers Tell to Win website when I encountered his Top Ten Reasons You Need Tell to Win today shown to the right. To me, the page tells more about Peter Gubers approach and ability to project a professional image in a concise and friendly manner than his About Peter Guber page, (which, incidentally, I still havent read). The style and brevity of the copy, the reiteration of you in every point, and the use of the Top 10 List countdown format, popularized on Late Night with David Letterman, projects a lot of positive brand-building abilities and traits. So, is your book marketing also building your personal brand? Take a few moments to take a fresh look at the way you are marketing and promoting your brand-building book. Is your book marketing consistent in message, style, and execution with your personal brand? Strive for consistency between your book marketing and your personal brand building efforts. If you know any other good examples, please share them as comments, below. Author: Check out Roger C. Filing a workers compensation lawsuit what you need to know
Filing a workersâ compensation lawsuit what you need to know Have you suffered injury or illness as a result of something that happened to you at work? When this happens, many peopleâs first instinct is to issue a private lawsuit, but this can be expensive or even impossible. In other cases, women especially are persuaded to settle â" after all, weâre raised to try to get along without making a fuss â" but this can lead to you getting less than you deserve, and can make it harder for you to access additional compensation later if you turn out to have been more badly affected than you originally thought. If you have the option, workersâ compensation is a good way to ensure that your rights are upheld. Are you eligible? If youâre a federal employee, youâll find that youâre protected under a different system, but most state and private sector employees are covered by the workersâ compensation scheme. Domestic workers, some agricultural workers and taxi drivers donât usually have this protection, and you wonât be covered if youâre self-employed or you own your own company (unless youâre also an employee of that company). Employees of small businesses that are making very little money may not be included. What does it cost? The cost of a workersâ compensation lawsuit is difficult to predict because it depends on the complexity of the case and how hard the insurance company decides to fight. A lawyer will be able to advise you on this. Some will work on a no-win, no-fee basis, taking their pay from your winnings, but this can end up costing you more overall. Another option is to get a loan to cover direct legal funding and simply pay this back after the case is over. What do you need to prove? In order to make a successful claim, you will need to prove that your injury or illness occurred in the context of your work, and you will need to demonstrate how it has affected you. What you wonât need to do is prove that your employer is to blame. This is a no-fault system, which makes it much easier to win and means that your employer will often help you build your case. Do you need a lawyer? Strictly speaking, you donât need to have a lawyer to make a claim, and some people decide to go it alone. This is very risky, however, because there are many highly technical aspects of claiming, and even if you have a strong case, you could lose it on a technicality. What can you expect to receive? If you are awarded compensation, the amount will depend on a number of factors. It will cover your medical costs and any wages you have missed out on if youâve been unable to work. It may cover the cost of help to enable you to return to work or get back to normal in day-to-day life. And, it may also include money for you to live on until youâre able to fully participate in your work duties again or, if you will never again be well enough to work, money to help you in the long term. Workersâ compensation is there to ensure that youâre fairly treated, so donât miss out.

By trying to plan a neat layout for the resume, you can avoid this problem.Write a good summary of the duties that you can offer to the company in your resume. Keep it short and to the point. If you have knowledge in several related fields such as a medical billing specialist who knows everything about medical billing, then be specific in describing your knowl edge and skills. Youre fired - you lucky dog - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog The NY Times has an interesting article about people who discover, that being fired from their job was the best thing that ever happened to them. With Job Searching, More Isnt Better -
With Job Searching, More Isnt Better - The Wall Street Journal reports on the fact that companies are enhancing their corporate recruiting sites and functions to make themselves more attractive to candidates.Ã Features such as blogs, video, podcasts, interactive chats, graphics and more are intended to appeal to Generation X and Y.Ã With all of the time, effort and money being put into these sites to make them competitive with candidates, it was interesting to note one candidates take on the situation: Some employers also have gone overboard with enhancements to their career portals by adding too many graphics and links, notes Matt Dunn, a second-year Harvard Business School student. Companies have become addicted to technology, he says. Theyre making their sites even harder to navigate because of all the bells and whistles. This seems like the perfect irony.Ã Even as companies reach out to recruits who supposedly embrace all of these bells and whistles, there is a call for getting back to basics.Ã Give the recruits information that is easy to access and digest that helps them decide where to apply.Ã Sometimes bells and whistles and podcasts are too much. This concept of more is not better can also apply to the job seeker.Ã Sometimes, it is best to ignore all the bells and whistles out there.Ã You can create high tech resumes online, video resumes, resumes that incorporate your voice, links to every place you ever workedIt goes on and on.Ã However, sometimes, your skills come through in a more true and genuine way when you offer them simply.Ã No bells, no whistles to try to cover up (or ironically highlight) your weaknesses.Ã Just you, your skills and your accomplishments.Ã Unadulterated you.Ã Refreshing for a change! Keppie Careers can help you put your best foot forward.Ã Well write a resume that helps you and employers realize what you have to offer!Ã
